The brilliant minds at www.calguns.net put together this handy flowchart to help people understand the complex assault weapon laws in California.  Using this chart you can determine if your centerfire rifle is California legal or an illegal unregistered assault weapon.

What do you do if you are confronted by law enforcement at the range with a completely legal AR15?

can you print this out and tell them to read it?

You probably could, but unless he is already somewhat familiar with off-list lowers and the feature ban it may not do any good. Most cops don't like it when "civilians" try to inform them of the law. If he is reasonable, it may help, however the true purpose of this chart is to make it easier for YOU to know you are building your rifle in a legal configuration. I wouldn't worry about cops at the ranges, however, as anybody that spends more than a few minutes at a local range is going to see many, many off-list rifles there. They are very common these days.

Yes because then you have a magazine that requires the use of a tool in order to remove it. By definition as written in the penal code, that is NOT a detachable magazine therefore you can have a pistol grip, collapsible stock, flash-hider, etc...
