Hello Kitty rifle makes CNN

It looks like the irrational fear of pink Hello Kitty and other painted guns keeps spreading.  Now it appears that reporter Brahim Resnik from KPNX Channel 12 in Phoenix has picked up the story and offers this one-sided hit job:

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/02/19/resnik.painted.guns.kpnx

After showing a woman on the street a picture of the Hello Kitty rifle and getting a laugh from her, he then proceeds to tell her "that it is a weapon used by the military".  The military is using semi-automatic civilian AR15's now?  Wow, maybe that is why it is taking us so long to finish up in Iraq.

This is just another made-up hypothetical "threat" to law enforcement that has no basis in the truth.  They even dig up a retired police officer to warn us about how frightening it is that it is legal for us to paint our own personal property any color we wish.  Must have been a slow news day...

Miss untrained rifle woman might want to switch her pink extended clip out with one thats legal.20 round clips are the law.Not banana clips.

Mr ignorant should learn that it is called a "magazine" not a "clip" and that this one actually only holds 10 rounds. You may want to actually read the blog entry before you post.

I can see both sides of this one -- but only if you couple it to how you would respond to another issue. If an angry civilian points a pink plastic water pistol at a cop, and the cop blows the civilian's head off, are you going to ask for the cop to be reprimanded?

Personally I think that anyone who acts aggressive with law enforcement or security personnel in any way deserves what they get -- I don't have a lot of respect for stupid people.

But neither do I have a lot of respect for people who do not recognize that there is in fact a public safety question here -- weather you think that public safety is important or not.

Other than a personal dislike of making a firearm look like a toy, the rifle is just fine. I disagree completely with the insane restrictions "lawmakers" place on firearm ownership and the further degradation of the Second Amendment.

I like how they try to imply that people would actually have their firearm duracoated for the purpose of taking on the police. So NOT the case. Primarily, those who would have any firearm colored pink, would likely be doing it for their wife. Regardless, the color doesn't take away from the fact that anyone using any type of firearm, whether real or toy, should know how to safely handle that firearm. And if you don't, you don't deserve to have that firearm. I would like to have mine colored. I think that most people who do this, would be looking to have a camouflage firearm for hunting purposes. I don't know for sure, but I'd bet that most people aren't going for the neon green tiger stripe look. I served in Iraq and I don't recall being issued a Pink Hello Kitty AR-15. We had the Black Colt M16A2. Big difference.

I've never seen a pistol grip like that on an AR before.
The angle of it is all wrong and it appears to extent up to meet the butstock.

Here's a picture of the Hello Kitty rifle after it's been assembled

For comparisn, here's a similar model with the pistol grip in it's normal position

Is this a response to some sort of lame ass California requirement for pistol grips on firearms?

@762: that is the "Monster Man" grip, and it basically turns the grip-form into that of a regular rifle (by "regular", I mean one without a pistol grip).

And Yes, it is intended for CA's lame attempts at gun regulation.
